Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London
United Grand Lodge of England
Men meeting for friendship, charity and tradition since 1930.

Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, and it is less secretive than people think. Our meeting dates, our charity work and our members are all publicly known. At its heart, a lodge is a group of local men who meet regularly, share a good dinner and give back to the place they live.

What members say
“The sense of connection and support from all the members is what keeps me coming back time after time”
01
A regular night out with men you can trust
4 meetings a year, each followed by a sit-down dinner. A fixed point in the diary that doesn't depend on work, family or circumstance.
02
Friendships that last
Plenty of members join in their 30s and 40s, between work and family. The friends you make stay with you through a job move, the children growing up and retirement.
03
Doing good in Greater London
The lodge raises money every year for local causes. Your membership puts something back into the place you live.
04
People who show up
When a member faces illness, bereavement or a hard time, the lodge doesn't disappear. That kind of loyalty is rare.

Community & charity
Every year the members of Fortis Green Lodge vote on where the lodge's donations go: local causes in London, Greater London hospices and national charities.

A typical evening
A lodge meeting has two parts: the formal meeting in the lodge room, then dinner with friends. Here's how the evening runs.
5:30pm
Arrival
Members arrive at {venue}. Drinks, conversation and introductions. Nothing formal yet.
6:00pm
The meeting
The formal part, held in the lodge room. A ceremony, a new member joining or routine lodge business. Structured and serious, and much less theatrical than films suggest.
8:00pm
Dinner (the "Festive Board")
Three courses, a few toasts, a speech or two and a charity raffle. Guests sit with members.
9:30pm
Home time
Most head home. Some stay on to finish the conversation.
